Tristan Technologies

Tristan Technologies is our industrial partner for the susceptometer project. Their responsibility include furnishing the high-Tc SQUID systems required, as well as custom cryogenic and positioning systems. The company was created in 1991 by individuals originally with a number of  San Diego superconducting companies, including Biomagnetic Technologies (BTi) and the S.H.E. Corporation. Sold  to Conductus, Sunnyvale in 1993, the company became its Instrument & Systems Division. When the division ceased operation in July 1997 a number of the people involved reformed Tristan Technologies, in August 1997.

Tristan's staff has over a century of accumulated experience in superconducting technology. The company  occupies a 4,700 square feet facility,  over 2,000 square feet of which is devoted to magnetometer fabrication. The Sorrento Valley (San Diego)  location provides ready access to a variety of specialized manufacturing techniques.

The company's major strength lies in the design and manufacture of laboratory and custom SQUID systems. Their standard product line of SQUID instrumentation is the widest available anywhere for scientific laboratory applications. Custom SQUID magnetometers include the first commercial high temperature SQUID magnetometer and gradiometer and liquid helium scanning SQUID microscopes with 2 µm resolution.
